Futures of Governance

Our gathering on September 24th at Tolhuistuin explored who gets to decide, and how governance and ownership can be built to protect what matters, bringing together a nature governance leader, a Mission Guardian, a steward-owned founder and a futurist, with live music from the opening set to the closing jam.

On September 24th, Tolhuistuin hosted the fourth Futures & Sustainability gathering, an evening on governance, ownership, and who gets to decide what comes next. Gilberto Morishaw opened with live music that set the tone for the room. Erik Korsvik Østergaard raised the question that ran through the evening, "who decides, who decides?", making the case for leading anticipatorily rather than reactively. Suzanne van Straaten and Anne-Wil Dijkstra showed what protecting a mission looks like in practice, from steward ownership at Sprinklr to the Mission Lock and golden share at Tony's Chocolonely, while Alexandra Pimor made the case for giving nature a seat at the board table. Gilberto and Erik closed the night with a jam session.

The evening reminded us that governance is not abstract, it is designed, contested, and shaped by who we trust to decide.
